The problem with the screwdriver is that it's something with an ostensibly functional purpose in the world. Doesn't register much with me at all, beyond what most other people are doing these days to get paid and fully sell out on their name and image. Some of it's fun, some of it's tacky, some of it's deliberately tacky, and the people on Linus' staff posing with this gear seem to be having fun. Most of the mid and low-priced stuff is kitschy gift shop clothing and souvenirs you'd find at any gift shop. The ratchet mechanism might be nicer and more premium feeling? It might be a little bit more ergonomic? Who knows at this point, but realistically it will be significantly closer to the quality of the Megapro than not, and you don't have to pay the upcharge. The answer is, probably not noticeably, really. It's literally using Megapro patents for at least some of the design so that makes sense haha. It may end up being really nice merch that is competitive to other commercial products, but it's also going to have that upchage there for the juice profit margins. You don't need to gamble on this, and pay the small run + merch upcharge, if all you want is a good, reliable driver.
PRO TECH TOOLKIT LINUS PC
For your PC building needs, or your DIY needs, there are equally as proficient cheaper options out there from known and respected players in the hardware game. This is a screwdriver tailor made for someone like Linus who has a super broad number of things he uses a screwdriver for in his day to day and is anal about wanting something that is his, perfectly. Ditto for the screwdriver.Īs for the first part of your comment, I agree completely. It's a backpack that is literally made to his exact wants and specifications that he can then get his massive fan base to purchase and pay off the investment (and make profit on top of after). the dude has no fucking sense of aesthetics lets be real. The abundance of pockets is because that's how he mostly uses his bags on the go. The reason it's so overengineered is because it literally has every fault that Linus has ever slightly experienced with a backpack designed out of it in the most thorough way possible. Seriously, that's half the point of them - he wanted something that suits him exactly, and if other people then want to go and buy it, excellent. Really though, and I've said this before, but both the screwdriver and the backpack are first and foremost designed for Linus. If anything, something being overengineered lends it to being expensive from an R&D perspective. I would also note that the backpack being overengineered (of which I would agree) and being ugly as sin (again, concur - dear god people if you're going to spend that money on a backpack just go buy a Peak) - they're not really arguments for anything you said. As for whether you should believe them or not, it's entirely up to you - the same as every other time you choose to believe things or not. The only reason I know any of this is because I follow Luke and watch the WAN show because of that, and occasionally browse the reddit - I don't blame anyone for not having that knowledge because they make it as hard as possible to find. The answer is yes, they've extensively talked about it, unfortunately it's almost entirely buried in years' worth of WAN shows, LTT vids, and Twitter posts.
